You're right, I think, Brentford. :-)
The whole thing is daft. We are really number 9. It's present size that matters.

Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?
in fact if you look at maximum crowds we are well down the list, basically because as a clu we were still relatively small in the 1930s when all the other clubs saw their maximum gates.

That of course has no bearing about the potential size of West Ham. The first home game of the 2016/17 season will be our record. Who else can say that?

The club used to base all projections with bank etc on having 600,000 fans worldwide. shows how small world is or how big man utd are

Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?
WBA average crowds of 24,819 this season...

We're averaging 34,855 and we're moving to a 54k-seater in August 2016...

Big difference between us and them... Our crowds are already 10k higher than theirs and will almost certainly be DOUBLE theirs in the near future...

West Broms maximum crowd v Wolves 61000 vs outs 49000 i believe v Spurs?

That basically explains it.

Crowds

We ranked all clubs on the size of their average gates during this season to reflect contemporary pull. Then we ranked each club by the size of their biggest historic gates. Their overall crowd rank is an aggregate of current pull and also potential based on past highs.

WTF?

apparently tottenham and villa have better crowds than liverpool. this stat is ironclad

How the fuck do West Brom have a better score than us for 'Crowd' with their 26,000 capacity tin pot stadium?

Wouldn't say that. But we have a whiff of authenticity about us that attracts posers.

Our symbol is, crossed hammers, is appealing.

We have a song that paints us as underdogs.

Our nicknames makes sense. Especially in America where they like that sort of thing.

We have Iron Maiden making hordes of teenage boys chant "Come on you Irons" the world over with out really knowing why (what other team has one of the worlds premier heavy metal bands subliminally advertising on their behalf?).

Our brand is very strong and appealing.

I find these sort of debates a bit silly really. There are lots of different things to make you argue different points of view and of course different biases.

There is an arguement we should be above some of those higher than us, but you fans of other teams below us could have points to say they should be higher than us.

So all in all pointless.

All I can say for all certainty is that we are the best club to support, and I won't entertain any arguments to the contrary

We were 11th in the 'All Time Premier League Table' -

Don't think that includes this year's points.

Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?

We've probably moved ahead of them now. Be interesting to see this list for the last decade or two.

We're a club that's never really fulfilled its potential at any time. We've never won the league, for example.

There's nothing wrong with that, but some do have slightly unrealistic expectations of where we are and how we are seen by the rest of football.

10th biggest global fanbase and 9th biggest income sounds right to me but we should be11th and above WBA for sure!

If you are the only top flight club in an entire city, then you have fluked being in the top 10.

Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?
Being compared to WBA - where it's empty seats galore at The Hawthorns every Home game - and Southampton, who used to play in a 15k-seated ground for fucking years and years and didn't always fill it, is downright embarrassing...

A few on here bizarrely see us on the same level as these regional clubs though...

Tell me, where are WBA's and Southampton's 54k-seater grounds then?!?!... Well?!?!... We're the same level, aren't we?!?!...

What a joke...

Glenn Rodent 4:27 Thu Mar 26
Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?
In my opinion we should be 9th. We should be above WBA, Sunderland and Newcastle.

Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?
"Why this obsession with size."
"We are not that big."
"There are many good things about being West Ham, but size is not one of them."

Speak for yourself fella.

Re: Where do we rank in the biggest clubs in England list ?
"We are not that big. We've never won the league and until 1958 pretty much a Div2 side. We've been a yoyo side in the last 20 years and have barely clung onto our PL status on years we have not been relegated."

We've been relegated twice in the last twenty years.
In the top flight non-relegation seasons we've finished
10th, 14th, 8th, 5th, 9th, 15th, 7th, 9th, 15th, 10th, 9th, 17th, 10th, 13th.

We're not the biggest team in the country by any stretch, but don't make stuff up to show how "realistic" you're being.
